Wide view of Bowman field

Wide view of Historic Bowman Field. Note the line of people waiting to get into the park; unusual for Class A minor league baseball, but it was Fireworks Night.

Sarge photographs the stadium

My baseball buddy, Sarge, photographs the stadium, using good old silver-oxide 35mm film and a Nikon rig.

Crosscutter player gives autographs

The home players walk right through the fans to get to their dugout. Many of them stopped to sign autographs. Here, infielder Miguel DeLa Cruz obliges some fans.

As the stadium starts to fill up, Crosscutter players play a game of pepper with a coach.

Hosing down the field

A member of the grounds staff hoses down the short outfield. The field grass was beautiful deep green. The infield was tan-colored sand and dirt. The pitcher's mound and home plate were made of a darker-colored dirt, probably with more clay in it.

Crosscutter mascot

The team mascot, Rusty Roughcut, looks on as a visiting Utica Blue Sox player waits on line to buy his dinner.

Now the game is underway. This is the view looking across the grandstand on the first base line.

Game view from press booth

Here's the view of the game from the press box, located high up in the grandstand behind home plate.

Wide view of the game

Our seats were FRONT ROW, slightly down the third base line from home plate. Here's a wide view shot from my seat.

Crazy between-inning promotion

One of the best things about minor league baseball is the creative promotions that take place between innings. Here, fans bob for green olives in coolers of cold water. The winner received a cash prize and some team-logo clothes.

The fireworks begin

Fireworks night begins.

Fireworks as seen from the grandstand

The fireworks display, seen from inside the grandstand. Fans were invited to sit on the outfield grass and watch the show. The stadium lights were turned off and the fireworks lasted about 25 minutes.
