19 Apr 1762:23 (174) New York Gazette (Weyman) NYG(W.762.041 19 Apr 1762:23 (174) By permission of his Honour the Lieutenant Governor, For the Benefit of Mr. Reed, By a Company of Comedians. At the New-Theatre in Chapel- Street, This evening, being the 19th of April, will be presented, a Tragedy, written by Mr. Philips, call'd The Distress'd Mother. The Original Epilogue, to be spoken by Mrs. Douglass. To which will be added, (by particular desire) a Farce, call'd The Mock Doctor, or, The Dumb Lady Cur'd. Between the Play and Farce, a Prologue, in the character of a drunken sailor, by Mr. Tomlinson. To begin exactly at six o'clock. There are partitions made to divide the side-boxes from one another, and thereby render them more commodious for select companies. The ladies and gentlemen who chuse to have boxes reserv'd for them, are desir'd to send to Mrs. Hallam. Boxes 8 s.--- Pit 5s.--- Gallery 3s. Tickets to be had of Mr. Gaine, in Hanover-Square, and of Mr. Reed, at his lodgings, at Mr. Marshall's, near the College. Men who intended him the favour of their company at his benefit, will not be disoblig'd at his postponing it, as the weather was then too bad for any ladies to walk; and in the opinion of everybody he consulted, seem'd likely to be much worse than it afterwards prov'd: for Mr. Reed could not, but with the utmost regret, give the least offence to any part of an audience to whom the Company in general are so much obliged. The boxes engaged by ladies and gentlemen last week, are reserved for them this night.
