[Relating the following to claims for reimbursement of loss,            
by merchants during the Stamp Act, a reader submits three               
versions of a French "Epigramme": (1) the original; (2)                 
translation; (3) a parody]                                              
EPIGRAMME.                                                              
Blaise voyant a' l'Agonie                                               
Lucas, qui devoit cent Francs                                           
Lui dit, toute Honte bannie,                                            
Ca payez moi mourir a' mon Aise,

TRANSLATION.                                                            
Sick on his bed, and struggling hard for breath,                        
Poor Lucas lay in agonies of death;                                     
Blaize, with a countenance and tone severe                              
Approach'd the bed, and thunder'd in his ear,

IMITATION.
