Three well-known works by this important music scholar:

Historie de I'harmonie au moyen-âge.

Scriptorum de musica medii aevi nova series.
4 volumes. 2,122 pages. Reprint of the Paris edition. 1864-1876.

A total of 6 volumes reprinted as one unit.

The value of Coussemaker's research and writings is nowhere better shown than in the four volumes of the "Scriptorum," which continues from Martin Gerbert's classic work, "Scriptores ecclesiastici de musica sacra potissimum."

At the beginning of each volume of Coussemaker's "Scriptorum" are brief characterizations and commentaries. The work covers the treatises on harmony and polyphony of the 12th and 13th centuries in unusually rich selection including the writings of such theorists as Guido von Arrezzo, de Muris, Hucbald, de Vitry, Tintoris, Handlo, et al. Thus, this work is basic to any library catering to the needs of music research.
