When the United Planning Organization took a blighted DC corner of despair and transformed it into a gleaming beacon of hope, the city took notice. Now, it’s time for the community to visit the building and at the same time learn more about UPO, the agency often termed “DC Community Action.”

On Saturday, October 19, 2002 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, UPO hosts a building Grand Opening Celebration featuring a day long - fun filled community event inviting citizens to visit the state of the art facility and learn more about UPO, one of the the District of Columbia’s largest private human service providers. The event occurs in the parking lot located at 301 Rhode Island Avenue, NW (near Florida Avenue) Washington, DC in the LeDroit Park section of the District of Columbia.

UPO’s citywide network of human service organizations will attend, providing DC residents with an array of information geared especially toward their specific neighborhoods. Also scheduled are health screening booths, educational vans, activities for children, community informational displays, vendors, and others.

Now celebrating its 40th year of service, UPO is the designated community action agency for the District of Columbia providing a wide array of services including Head Start, early childhood development; senior citizens activities; transportation services; crisis intervention; neighborhood development; substance abuse prevention and treatment; employment placement programs; community health programs; and others.
