Frederic Chopin's Works. First Critical Edition. Edited by Woldemar Bargiel, Johannes Brahms, August Franchomme, Franz Liszt, Carl Reinecke, and Ernst Rudorff.

14 volumes with Supplement and a Revisions Report to volumes V, IX, and XIV. Originally published at Leipzig, 1878-1880.

One of the most original of the Romantic composers, Chopin is accorded a special place in music history. A mainstay of the piano repertory, Chopin's music has fascinated both performer and scholar by the great influence it has exerted on subsequent piano music and in the way it foreshadows certain elements of 20th century musical thought.

Although most of Chopin's works have been published in many separate (and often unworthy) editions throughout the world, the First Critical Editions remains a highly desirable acquisition. The Edition has long been unavailable in printed book form and when found as an antiquariat item is always sold at high prices.
