UPO Acquires Operation of Senior Network
It has had several names during its 30-year existence, actually starting out as Project Link. But since May 2000, the newly named Senior Services Program, now under the dominion of UPO, is a partnership with the DC Office on Aging and licensed to s
erve sites in DCs Ward 2 and Ward 6, both sections of the District of Columbia with large senior populations.
Barbara Gordon Reynolds directs the Senior Services Program.
The new UPO activity brings with it 15 new employees and an assortment of volunteers, all eager to continue the high quality services theyve provided while maintaining UPOs standards of customer care.
Community service veteran Brenda Gordon-Reynolds directs the activity, a position shes held for more than 13 years. In fact, most staff in the Senior Services Program have worked in the program for nearly 10-years. Such longevity shows their commitment, according to a senior citizen who participates in programs at one of the centers. When you look at a senior citizen, that person tells you of your past, present, and your future noted Ms. Reynolds recently as she moved through UPO headquarters meeting headquarters staff. Ms. Reynolds is no stranger to human service, holding a BA from Tennessee State University and an MSW from Atlanta University. The program operates out of UPOs Anacostia Community Services neighborhood facility located at 1649 Good Hope Road, SE Washington.
Seniors receive an assortment of specialized services at the centers including nutritious meals, counseling, socialization, recreation, computer training, transportation, and health counseling, among others. According to Ms. Reynolds, longevity is the greatest accomplishment in the 21st Century. Todays seniors are blessed with long lives and a healthy attitude toward aging. They are living life to its fullness.
