Washington, DC's young people
deserve the very best in services possible. UPO provides quality
services to youth via several programs and activities that reach
across virtually all sectors of the city. Among the many services
provided is UPO's part of the Summer Youth Employment Program,
a legendary activity that pairs young people with many of the
city's finest employers. Funded by the District of Columbia government,
UPO's involvement with SYEP spans the 20-year history of the much
heralded program. More than 150 DC youth participated in the program
during the summer 1999 which ran from early July to mid August.

Another very popular activity
is UPO's own Youth Program, an activity that provides young people
with quality recreational, educational, and community service.
The aim is to make certain young people become well rounded citizens
while avoiding negative elements of society that more often than
not plague our younger residents. UPO provides funding to more
than 16 neighborhood-based groups which actually provide community-based
services ranging from computer training classes to arts/dance
groups.
