CONOCO

A 127-year-old company, Conoco's vision is to be recognized around the world as a truly great, integrated, international energy company that gets to the future first. The fourth-largest U.S. based energycompany, Conoco operates in more than 40 countries and is active in both the upstream and downstream segments of the global petroleum industry, including exploration, production, transportation, marketing and refining.

Power generation, carbon fibers and gas-to-liquids technologies are promising emerging businesses for the company. Notably, an 8 million pound-per-year carbon fibers manufacturing plant is under construction adjacent to Conoco's refinery in Ponca City, Oklahoma. The $124 million plant began commercial production in the second half of 2001. Further, the company's natural gas refining and gas-to-liquids technology is progressing to the extent that a semi-works plant also is under construction in Ponca City.

Conoco has several distinctive strengths that, combined, distinguish it from other energy companies: Integration, Carbon Upgrading, Deepwater Technology, Project Management, Value Creation and Safety/Environmental Performance.

The company recently received the following major, industry-wide designations:
* For the second consecutive year, Conoco's upstream business was ranked No. 1 among 13 competitors in an independent analysis of worldwide exploration and production performance conducted by Prudential Securities. IN 1999, Schroeder & Co. ranked Conoco first in a similar report.
* The premier position for European refiners by Wood Mackenzie, which measured 19 international oil companies' refining operations for net cash margin per barrel.
* Conoco now has ranked as the safest U.S. oil and natural gas company for 17 of the past 23 years, and has held that record consecutively for the past five years. Outside the United States, the company has ranked as safest for each of the past three years -- the period for which API has benchmarked non-U.S. employee safety.

Conoco is listed on the New Year Stock Exchange as NYSE:COC
