Devon Energy Corporation, headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is one of the five largest U.S.-based independent oil and gas companies in North America and is included in the S&P 500 Index. By virtue of its 1999 merger with PennzEnergy Company, Devon inherited a long and distinguished relationship with the country of Azerbaijan. Devon has the distinction of being the first American company to have completed a project in the country (the Gas Utilization Project, or GUP), which continues to supply Baku with substantial volumes of natural gas today.

Devon continues that tradition and relationship with its ongoing participation in the AIOC consortium that is developing the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli fields offshore Baku. In addition, Devon, as a good corporate citizen, has provided substantial humanitarian, educational and medical assistance to Azerbaijan, most recently with its rehabilitation of the Children's Bone Tuberculosis Sanatorium, named in honor of Professor Gindes in Zagulba.
