Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, a subsidiary of
United Technologies Corporation, is a world leader in the design
and manufacture of advanced helicopters for commercial, industrial
and military uses.
Sikorsky helicopters occupy a dominant international
position in the intermediate to heavy range of 11,700 lb. (5,300
kg.) to 73,500 lb. (33,000 kg.) gross weight. They are used by five
branches of the United States armed forces, military services and
commercial operators in more than 40 nations. Based in Stratford,
Connecticut, Sikorsky has outlying facilities in other Connecticut
locations, as well as Florida and Alabama. The total area of buildings
owned or leased by Sikorsky comprises more than 3.7 million square

The Sikorsky and Boeing Helicopters team is developing the U.S. Army's
new armed reconnaissance helicopter, the RAH-66 Comanche, which conducted
its first flight in January 1996.
An international team led by Sikorsky is developing
the S-92 HELIBUS, which made its first flight in 1998. The S-92
is aimed at the medium-lift commercial and government markets. The
team members are: Jingdezhen Helicopter Group/CATIC of the People's
Republic of China, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Japan, Aerospace
Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) in Taiwan, Embraer of
Brazil and Gamesa of Spain.
Sikorsky delivered a total of 99 aircraft, including
12 kits, in 1998. Core programs are based on the H-60 aircraft,
the U.S. Army BLACK HAWK and the SEAHAWK series for the U.S. Navy.
H-60 derivative aircraft are being fielded for a multiplicity of
missions with other branches of the U.S. military. Sikorsky's CH-53E
and MH-53E heavy-lift aircraft are used by the U.S. Navy and Marine
Corps to transport personnel equipment and in anti-mine warfare
missions.
Customers in 1998 received 16 new commercial S-76
aircraft. The S-76C+ is latest model in production. S-76 variants
can be found around the world serving airline, executive transport,
offshore oil, search and rescue and emergency medical service missions.
Worldwide, S-70 BLACK HAWK helicopter variants
are serving, or are on order, with 24 governments - Argentina, Australia,
Bahrain, Brazil, Jordan, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, People's Republic
of China, the Philippines, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Spain,
Taiwan, Thailand and Turkey.
Sikorsky is established in the international market
with licensing agreements with Westland in the United Kingdom, Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries (MHI) in Japan and Korea Air. Sikorsky and Korean
Air are co-producing BLACK HAWK helicopters for the Republic of
Korea. In Japan, MHI is licensed to produce SEAHAWK aircraft and
BLACK HAWK derivatives. Other business in Japan includes the commercial
sale of the MH-53E heavy-lift mine countermeasures helicopter.
